Four is the magic number in glassware
Four-piece sets in glassware were the most popular with consumers in 2001. According to Jeff Joyce, Libbey's director of marketing, "the business is driven by four- and 16-piece sets."
While Tom Moleski, retail marketing manager for Arc International agrees that four-set pieces sold in multipacks remain popular because they consist of identical glasses, he also notes that there is a great opportunity for future growth with higher piece counts. Moleski adds, "In the last couple of years, the high piece-count sets - 30 and 32- have been selling well. I think it's the consumer responding to value."
