2002 Discovery Award Winners
Prestigious Discovery Awards presented at show
Once again, SGCDpro selected winners for its prestigious Discovery Awards during the 2002 DECO show. This year, despite the consolidation of categories, there were 320 entries in 15 design and 7 technical categories. In the design category, glass and ceramic entries were judged separately. All entries were displayed in SGCDpro's Discovery Room which was located in the exhibition hall. This new location was well received by members who felt having the exhibits and entries in one hall was a good idea. The winners were selected by three judges. The judging panel included Holly Carter, U.S. Glass/Glass.com, Arn Bernstein, ASI and Norb Buddenbohn, a past SGCDpro president. Two Discovery Award entries were honored for overall merit and received the Vandenoever and the Judges' Award.
Lenox China receives Vandenoever Award
Show-goers who visited the Discovery Room unanimously selected a "Best of Show" entry to receive the annual Vandenoever Award. This year's winner is Lenox China with its formal "Clinton Service" tableware. The four-piece setting is decorated with manual transfer and etches, raised paste, and hand applied precious metal.
Judges Award goes to Design Point Decal
After reviewing every entry in the Discovery Room, the three judges voted for their own "Best of Show" entry. Design Point Decal became the 2002 recipient of the Judges Award with its Yankee stadium, four-panel water-slide decal on porcelain.
